A Weekend of Yoga Philosophy and Yoga Therapy with Nischala Joy Devi Healing Through the Maya Koshas March 2-3, 2013!
Nischala Joy Devi
In our innocence we identify with the Maya Koshas, five bodies rather than what the bodies are shielding, the True Self. - Taitreya Upanishad
According to traditional yoga scripture, we all function with not just one, but five bodies or Maya koshas (illusion of covering).
The first sheath is our physical body (Anna Maya Koshas), the body made up of food. It is best known, yet it does not function alone.
The next sheath is the body of energy (Prana Maya Kosha). This is the energy field or aura that functions both within and surrounding the physical body. This body supplies energy to the physical body and the mind, emotions and senses.
The next sheath relates to the mind, emotions and senses (Mano Maya Kosha). It holds our thoughts, feelings and sensory input. This body is active even when the physical body is still.
Next, we move to the more subtle sheath of higher wisdom (Vijnana Maya Kosha). We all have wisdom stored in this body often know as the intuition. We also find our higher intellect and extra sensory perception in this body.
We now embrace the closest sheath to our True Nature, the body of joy (Ananada Maya Kosha). This body is so transparent that the light of the True Self alone shine. We are drawn only to this light, the rest of the material world disappears.
All the bodies must come into alignment for us to be able to experience the optimal benefits from the yoga practices.
In this workshop, Nischala Joy Devi, author of The Healing Path of Yoga, explores these five layers that cover our True Self. Through this understanding we are able to remove the veils of illusion (Kleshas) that keep us from experiencing healing and the light within. With this wisdom we are able to tap into that part of us that knows only joy in our everyday life. Then we can bask in the peace of our own true nature.
Nischala Joy Devi explores each of the five bodies:
how they function
how they interact with each other
how the Kleshas or veils of Illusions preventing us from seeing our true self
how according to yoga philosophy disease happens
to create spiritual abundance
to engage the subtle bodies in healing
to heal and nurture ourselves on all levels
to understand why some of the practices are easy and why others are difficult
to consciously direct energy
to positively direct the mind and emotions
Through this workshop we learn to unleash and infuse vitality and knowledge to transform every aspect of our lives.
